Privacy Policy
ibeg4bucks.com ("the site") is a personal art project run by Alex Jay ("I", "me"). This page explains what information the site collects, what I do with it, and the choices you have. I wrote it in plain language on purpose.
Who is responsible
Alex Jay, an individual, California, USA. You can reach me through the contact form on the site.
What I collect, and why
| What | Why | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Payment details (card number, billing details) | To take your gift. | Only Stripe. I never see or store your card number. |
| Gift record: amount, date and time, and a Stripe reference number | To count gifts, keep accounts, issue refunds and handle disputes. | Only me. |
| Name and message (if you add them) | To show you on the wall of names. | Public, but only after I approve it. |
| Profile photo (if you add one) | To use as a still frame in the weekly video, a tile in the collage. | Public, but only after I approve it. |
| Your consent to use your photo | To record that you agreed. | Only me. |
| Contact messages: the name, email and message you type into the contact form, plus a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address | To read and answer you, and to limit spam. I can't work out your address from the scrambled version. | Only me. |
| Technical data such as your IP address and browser type | To keep the site running and secure. | Cloudflare (see below). I don't use it to identify you. |
I don't run advertising, tracking pixels or analytics on the site, and I don't sell or rent your information.
Photos in detail
- Your browser shrinks and re-saves the photo before it's uploaded. That also removes hidden data such as the location where it was taken.
- When the project reaches one million people, the finished video and collage will be uploaded to this site and to YouTube, free for anyone to watch and download. Your approved photo will be in them, and people can save copies. It is also public before then: once I approve it, it can appear on the site's wall and collage and in the weekly videos, and anyone can save a copy at any time. Only send a photo you're comfortable having public for good.
- Your photo is held privately until Stripe confirms your payment. If you don't finish paying, it's deleted automatically within a day.
- I look at every name and photo before it goes up. Anything I don't approve stays private. If a name or photo is inappropriate, or a photo doesn't meet the portrait standards, I may leave it out and delete the photo, without contacting you. The gift itself stays.
- Please send a photo of yourself only. Don't send photos of other people, and don't send photos of anyone under 18.
- I don't use face recognition, and I don't collect anything that identifies you from your face.
Who else handles your information
- Stripe processes payments. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the information it collects: stripe.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare hosts the site, stores gift records and photos, and delivers pages. It handles technical data like IP addresses in the course of doing that: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- YouTube (Google) will host the finished video once the project is complete. After that, YouTube's own terms and privacy policy apply to that copy: policies.google.com/privacy.
These services may process data in the United States and other countries. I share information with authorities only when the law requires it.
Cookies
The site doesn't track you across other websites, so a browser's "Do Not Track" signal doesn't change anything about how it works.
The site itself doesn't set cookies. Stripe's payment page, and Cloudflare's security tools, may set cookies of their own to process payments and block abuse.
How long I keep things
- Gift records (amount, date, reference): as long as needed for accounting, tax and dispute purposes, typically up to 7 years.
- Contact messages: until I've dealt with them, then I delete them (usually within 90 days).
- If I can no longer run the project: I'll have asked someone I trust to wind it down. That may mean publishing the video as it stands or deleting the photos.
- Name, message and photo: until the project is complete, or until you ask me to remove them. Removing them stops them appearing in anything new, but can't recall copies already made. The finished video and collage, once uploaded to this site and YouTube, stay online. Rejected photos are deleted straight away.
Your choices
You can email me to ask to see what I hold about you, correct it, or have your name, message and photo removed. I'll act on it as soon as I reasonably can, usually within 30 days.
One honest limit: once I approve your photo and it appears on the site, in the collage or in a weekly video, anyone can save a copy. If you ask, I'll stop showing you, take you out of the next weekly video and leave you out of anything I make from then on. I can't take back copies that people have already saved or shared, and once the finished video and collage are online and free to download, those stay online.
Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU/UK), you may have additional legal rights over your data. Email me and I'll respect them.
Children
The site is for adults. Don't send a photo of, or a gift on behalf of, anyone under 18. If I learn that I have a minor's photo, I'll delete it.
Security
Payments go through Stripe's secure page. Photos and gift records are stored with Cloudflare and are only accessible to me through a password-protected page. No system is perfectly secure, so I can't promise absolute safety.
Changes
If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
